What to wear to the airport
There are certain places where we always want to look our best: a first date, a job interview and now – the airport. Social media shopping site LTK has just reported a 400% increase in searches for airport outfits. Handy, because many of us are heading to airports at this time of year.

While comfort is usually first and foremost on our minds when considering in-flight fashion, with tracksuits, leggings and extra soft socks (sometimes accompanied by Crocs or slides) making regular appearances, the rise in loungewear and “snuggly sets” means we no longer have to choose between fashionable and functional. Just take a look at brands such as Adanola, Chelsea Peers or Skims.
For short-haul flights, what you wear perhaps requires less thought from a comfort perspective, although the onboard temperature can get quite cold and one should take that into consideration. However, long-haul flights are where comfort really is key, and fashion fans are now sharing their chic and cosy looks on social media, some of which I’ve shared below. So, if you’re looking for travel outfit inspiration, here goes…
The tonal two-piece

The tracksuit is a go-to for all kinds of travelling. As with any co-ord, it will have you looking effortlessly put together with minimal pause for thought. Plus, they’re soft, snuggly and can be worn with a vest top underneath to keep you warm or cool depending on the aircon situation.
Fashion fans are leaning towards Chelsea Peers (this chic green half zip sweatshirt, £55), Adanola (incredibly soft hoodies, £60) and Skims (I love the logo-free zip-up hoodie, £90, and matching shorts, £52.
Build up with a blazer

Blazers are one of the easiest ways to smarten up an outfit. If you’re travelling for work or just want to feel a little fancy while up in the air, add one to your trusty travel outfit of leggings, trainers and a plain T-shirt.
Neutral shades will help the blazer stand out against black leggings, such as this beige single-button M&S option, £49.50, and this double-breasted belted River Island find, £49. If you’d prefer a basic black, this Cos pick, £135, will work with almost any airport outfit.
Longline shorts

While shorts may not be the first thing that spring to mind when assembling an airport outfit (leather seats, such as on British Airways, and bare legs aren’t a pleasant combo), longline options will help you sport a warm weather look without your skin touching yours seat.
I’m particularly fond of sports-like styles such as this slouchy side-stripe Free People pair, £44; Cotton On’s lilac jort, £11; and Uniqlo’s utility style Bermudas, £24.90.
Step into sportswear

Sportswear and gym kits are designed to be comfortable, making them a great option for travel. Plus, the bright and bold colours are an easy way to step into the holiday mood, even if it’s pouring down with rain on the runway.
Key pieces that we’re enjoying include the classic Adidas three-stripe tracksuit bottoms, £50; Finisterre’s colourful windbreakers, £135; and this varsity-like With Nothing Underneath cap, £32.
Layer up in linen

Yes, linen is prone to creasing, but that adds to its laid-back charm. Plus, the lightweight breathable fabric is one of the best solutions to keep you cool when stepping off the plane in particularly hot locations. Matching tops and shirts, especially in a neutral shade, will have you out the door in minutes and pair perfectly with sandals and trainers.
White Stuff has a great range of linen shirts in a whole host of shades, £75; F&F has a nice neutral set, with the waistcoat, £29.50, and trousers, £19.50, sold separately. And, if you’re tempted to try a more colourful look, take a peek at Nobody’s Child’s butter yellow options, £47.
