FETISHWEAR is becoming a surprise design hit, as so-called gimp suits take the fashion world by storm. And why’s that?
The skin-tight latex look has arrived, thanks to Kim Kardashian’s dominatrix-style outfit featuring a zipped mask, seen at the Met Gala in New York this month.
Kardashian arrived at the prestigious fashion event in a black bodysuit with covering that completely disguised her face.
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, 40, was compared to everything from a “gimp” and a Dementor from Harry Potter to an alien.
Her outfit, which was designed by Demna Gvasalia, the creative director of Balenciaga, completely covered her body from head to toe. It had long sleeves, long trousers and matching black boots and gloves, with a long train trailing behind Kim.
Kim Kardashian’s fully-covered look at the most stylish event in the fashion calendar quickly became the talk of the town. It was instantly meme’d of course, and will undoubtedly be one of the Gala looks that goes down in history. While Kim’s face was totally covered by a balaclava, her makeup artist revealed that she was wearing a full face of makeup underneath.
Kim’s makeup artist and friend Mario Dedivanovic revealed the star’s full look on Instagram, sharing behind-the-scenes pics of Kim before she donned the full-coverage Balenciaga look. According to Mario, he first prepped Kim’s skin with the iconic Crème de la Mer, among other La Mer products (he’s a partner of the brand), then used his eponymous line, Makeup by Mario, to design Kim’s simple, sculpted makeup look. We also spied a KKW Beauty pencil among Mario’s stash of products, because obviously.
The final look was classic Kim: perfect brows, glowing yet matte skin, a subtly smoky eye, and her old faithful, contoured cheeks. Mario finished off the look with a barely-there neutral lip. As for the rest of her beauty moment, Kim went with a long, neutral manicure and an extra-long ponytail, which popped right out of her mask as she walked the Met stairs.
The Met Gala is all about glamour and over-the-top looks from the world’s most prestigious designers, and celebrities dress the part. However, in Kim’s case, it wasn’t just her Balenciaga outfit that had a high price tag. Turns out her huge ponytail, which only popped out of the balaclava mask, also cost a pretty penny.
As noted by Cosmopolitan UK, the 75-inch ponytail cost $10,000. (Yes, you read that right: ten thousand US dollars).
And it’s expected to be the biggest look this Halloween too. I loved Dan Levy from Schitt’s Creek too – what a showstopper…
