The Cape

Why there’s nothing so captivating as a cape: Sensual rather than sexy – and they cover up your arms…

Every year, when it comes to looking at new outerwear for the cold season, the cape is always on trend. But, as gorgeous as it looks, a cape isn’t as snug as our North Face Puffa or as easy to throw on as a wool maxi Zara peacoat. In fact, few of us know how to wear them.Well, let’s share some Zips It Up styling options with you.

The cape plays a significant role in the history of costumes and fashion. It was born as a drape, developed as a cloak with a hood, and during the Middle Ages it became a garment similar to the poncho seen today on the likes of Kate Moss and Sienna Miller.

We love capes, because one can layer as little or as much as preferred underneath, and  a cape can take us through multiple seasons.

How do you wear a Cape?

1. Style it with thigh-high boots

Under a thick-fabric cape you can wear a minidress or a shirt with skinny jeans for a trendy look. It’s a great pairing for thigh-high boots and leather leggings. The Free People studded classic is a perfect timeless option for many years to come.

2. Layer it over your leisure wear

I bet you never imagined a cape could come in handy before and after your workout sessions and when you’re out running errands. Wear it with your gym kit or athleisure outfit. It’s quick and easy and a great cover-up.

3. Define the waistline with a monochrome belt

If you’re someone who adores a good monochrome look, this is a great way to elevate the outfit. Comfortable, yet elegant, this classic cream cape will be your everyday go-to. Simple belt it up for the perfect silhouette.

4. Mix it up with different texture, like leather

For an eternally sophisticated evening look and timeless charm, consider a double breasted cape like the Wool Zara Cape. You can create a fabulously elegant version of yourself, with a maxi slip dress or wide-leg trousers for the Xmas office party and mix it up with different textures. Just add red accessories.
