Smart Earrings To Monitor Your Health

Imagine earrings that could revolutionise the way we stay healthy – and still look glamorous?

Introducing the Thermal Earring, the latest piece of wearable tech that could monitor your health – all from your earlobe.

Although one’s earlobe may seem like a random place to test temperature, researchers at the University of Washington have announced that their new device showed promise for monitoring signs of stress, eating, exercise and ovulation.

They found that in patients with fevers, the average earlobe temperature rose by up to 6°C compared to other healthy patients.

In other words, glamourous accessories could potentially double up as healthcare tech. The earring measures fevers continuously, which means it can detect early if the body is fighting off an infection.

The study, which also measured participants at rest, revealed that the earrings significantly beat a smartwatch at sensing skin temperature.

The tiny device – the size and weight of a small paperclip – is just a prototype at the moment. It features a magnetic clip (handy if you want to wear one but don’t have your ears pierced) attaching a temperature sensor to a wearer’s ear, while the other one dangles around an inch below to estimate the room temperature.

If wearable tech is your thing but you’re unsure of the style, the earring can also be personalised, even featuring gemstones.

The smart tech jewellery has a 28-day battery life, and comes with a Bluetooth chip, battery, two temperature sensors, and an antenna.

This piece of revolutionary tech may just be the thing needed to look stylish and monitor your general health.

All under the guise of fashion.
