The creators behind the viral cartoonish-style ‘Big Red Boots’ (you may remember I bought them earlier this year) have a new bizarre footwear item for sale.
The latest design by Brooklyn-based art collective MSCHF, is the Backwards shoe – which can be worn both ways.
Actor Donald Glover was spotted recently wearing the quirky shoes at a Brooklyn Nets vs. Orlando Magic basketball game last week.
Fashion lovers can slide their foot in from the front or the back of the BWD Shoe, which makes it look like you’re wearing the shoe completely backwards.
The brand’s new white leather, orange suede, and black-speckled midsole shoes, officially go on sale today on MSCHF for $135.
Unsurprisingly, some are unsure about the design, with many taking to Twitter to make fun of the quirky trainers.
One person wrote: ‘This not even fashion this is stupid.’ Another said: ‘That is just horrible lol.’
Someone else wrote: ‘Why do rich people get money and forget how to dress.’ While another joked: ‘When you take one step forward and two steps back.’
However some people were ‘curious’ about the design and not willing to write it off so quickly.
One person wrote: ‘I’m curious, is it a convertible or that’s just how it is?’
Another said: ‘Interesting concept you can put the shoes on different ends I watched the video and I thought it was interesting.’
MSCHF, which was founded in 2016, has gained a reputation for creating both digital and physical designs that mock and warp everyday concepts.
MSCHF itself has branded the shoes as ‘cartoon boots for a cool 3D world’ and the press release notes: ‘If you kick someone in these boots they go BOING!’
It continued: ‘You never design shoes to be shaped like feet. Big Red Boots are REALLY not shaped like feet, but they are EXTREMELY shaped like boots.’
The Big Red Boot caused quite a stir online, with social media sent into a frenzy – and I LOVE mine. Watch this space for more stir about the Backward shoe.
