H&M Collab With Mulger

H&M’s designer collabs are back again. After a brief hiatus in 2022, it has been announced that they are bouncing back in tandem with a proper fashion legend: Mugler. Time to get your glamour pants on, because this is super special and it’s happening this MAY.

The collaboration will come as a surprise. To everyone, really. Historically, the French label, which was founded by the late Strasbourg-born Thierry Mugler in 1973, has remained largely centred among the “chosen few” of Paris’s fashion elite, with roots in haute couture. Mugler is NOT mass-market stuff. Its signature bodysuits are the go-to for Dua Lipa on stage, while the label’s most iconic pieces – the Harley Davidson dress and the Oyster gown – are the stuff of museums, and only permitted day-release at the request of the likes of Cardi B and Beyoncé. Meanwhile, Mugler’s short run of sharp-shouldered, zoot-style suits got the nod from David Bowie in the ’90s (Thierry dabbled with menswear during his career, before eventually dropping it).

The H&M collaboration will be Mugler at an affordable level. Lycra bodysuits will be available and will likely come in around the £100 mark, while, as seen in the campaign video (with Jerry Hall), there will be plenty of cut-out suiting – for men and women – in black and punchy lime green. There will also be some of the designer’s signature denim garments – cropped jackets and jeans with chap-like cut-outs, as well as big leather moments by way of jackets and trousers.

This is the latest in a string of H&M hook-ups. Over the past 19 years, H&M has partnered annually with some of the catwalk’s biggest international brands, from Karl Lagerfeld (the first brand to do so, in 2004), Balmain, Comme des Garcons and Versace. Each resulted in queues snaking down high streets across the globe, as well as a complete sell out one hour after the stores opened. Expect the same for Mugler.

My advice here at Amanda Zips It Up is go online and get ready to press BUY at 9.01am, the moment the collection goes on sale.
